Russia offers 24 blocks for exploration and production in August 2011

The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation offered 24 new blocks for exploration and production in August 2011.

The blocks within the Volga-Ural region hold the majority of the C1 and C2 oil reserves, whilst the highest level of D1+D2 oil reserves, 268.6 million tons, are located in East Siberia. Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area (West Siberia) holds the blocks with the highest amount of C3 and D1+D2 gas reserves.

The Zagranichnyy block, located within the Samara region (Volga-Ural), 20 kilometres to the south-east of Kinel, holds C1 oil reserves forecast at 1.234 million tons. The Kommunarskoye and Zapadno-Kommunarskoye oil fields, operated by Rosneft-Samaraneftegaz OJSC, are located in close proximity to this block.

The auction of the Zagranichnyy block, offered for an exploration and production period of 25 years will start on 15 November 2011 with the deadline to submit applications and deposits on 27 September 2011. The application fee is set at USD5,599, whilst the starting bid is close to USD9 million.
