Peru 2010 Bidding Round

On 15 May 2010, Perupetro, Peru's hydrocarbons agency, announced a Bidding Round for 25 onshore blocks. These 25 blocks encompass approximately 11,000 square kilometres located in Marañón, Ucayali, Santiago, Huallaga and Sechura basins.

Perupetro has been accepting letters of interest since 21 May, however, the interested companies have until 24 September to submit their initial applications. The queries and clarifications may be submitted from 4 June to 24 September and offers are due on 11 October. The awarding ceremony will occur on 14 October 2010 along with the submission and opening of the offers.

According to the Peruvian regulatory framework, the hydrocarbons exploration license phase shall last seven years, which can be extended according to law. The oil and gas production phases have 30 and 40 year terms respectively. The exploration phase is divided into periods during which companies are required to comply with the minimum work programme for each block. Activities in the work programme, which is summarised below, include reinterpretation of existing data, acquisition of seismic information and drilling of exploratory wells.
