Cook Inlet and Alaskan Peninsula 2009 Lease Sales

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (ADNR), Division of Oil and Gas (DO&G) (www.dog.dnr.state.ak.us/oil/index.htm), offered lands for competitive oil and gas leasing in the Cook Inlet Areawide 2009 (CI2009) Lease Sale on 20 May 2009.

The CI 2009 sale area encompassed approximately four million acres divided into 815 tracts ranging in size from 640 to 5,760 acres. The sale area is located entirely within the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and the Municipality of Anchorage.

The division offered an unleased 4.55 acre surveyed parcel (USS 4325) within Tract 597 under special terms. This tract is within the boundaries of the Ivan River Unit. The successful bidder would be expected to join the unit.

The sale resulted in five bids received on four tracts for a total of 7,685 acres. The sum of all bids received was USD147,001.65, and the total of only the high bids was USD110,009.65. The block that received the highest bid was Tract 244,which was submitted by Alaskan New Energy LLC. Tract 597 had the highest bid per acre, USD1,527.05, which was submitted by William C Kilpatrick.

The ADNR, DO&G, also offered lands for competitive oil and gas leasing in the Alaskan Peninsula Areawide 2009 (AP2009) Lease Sale on 20 May 2009.

The Alaskan Peninsula Areawide sale area encompassed approximately 5.8 million acres divided into 1,047 tracts ranging in size from 1,208 to 5,760 acres. The offered area consists of onshore and offshore acreage that stretches from the NushagakPeninsula in the north, down the north side of the AlaskanPeninsula, to just north of ColdBay. Portions of these tracts are located within the Bristol Bay Borough, Lake and Peninsula Borough and Aleutians East Borough.
