Norwegian Awards in Predefined Areas 2007

The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has offered a total of 52 licences under the Awards in Predefined Areas 2007 (APA 2007).  24 of the licences lie in the North Sea, with 21 in the Norwegian Sea and the remaining seven in the Barents Sea.  The Ministry states that there is a large potential for proving new, smaller resources close to existing infrastructure in the mature areas of the Norwegian Continental Shelf, which explains the extensive interest in the APA rounds.

A list of the companies, which have been awarded licences, is included in the Weekly Service (issue 07/08).  A layer (called NO_OFS_APA07_AWD) has also been added to the PetroView North West Europe February dataset update.  This shows the nominated blocks and can be accessed via PetroView's catalogue.

For more information, please visit the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy's website.

BERR announced that a record breaking 2,297 blocks or part-blocks are on offer in the 25th Round.  As in recent Rounds, three types of licences, Traditional, Frontier and Promote, are available in the 25th Round.

The licence types are restricted by the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) areas.  Layers showing the blocks on offer, called UK_OFS_25RND_ANN, and the SEAs, called SEAs, are included in the PetroView North West Europe February dataset update and is accessible through the catalogue.

Doing business in Turkmenistan

Date: Wednesday March 12th, 2008
Venue: The Deloitte Academy, 1 Stonecutter Street, London EC4A 4TR

Turkmenistan’s profile in the upstream oil and gas sector has risen considerably as a result of recent political changes.  This land-locked nation is endowed with substantial hydrocarbon deposits with, probably, the fourth largest reserves of natural gas in the world.  These are of particular significance when set against a backdrop of increasing global demand for access to larger reserves, together with higher oil and gas prices.

Historically, political uncertainty and a simple lack of information have deterred major international oil and gas company activity.  Disputes with neighbouring countries over national delineations and export routes add a further layer of complexity.  In order to participate in this region, potential players require more insight in terms of geology, long-term investment opportunities and export conditions.

With this in mind, we invite you to attend our seminar during which we will discuss key issues related to operating in this oil and gas sector.
